On a pitch glistening with dew drops under heavy rainfall, the Queen Mary (QM) team glided across the pitch with confidence throughout the match. QM consistently applied pressure to King’s College London (KCL), despite one breakthrough goal from KCL. For QM it was a tensely fought win. A match that ceded one goal, but scored two goals. The scenes at Drapers (QM student union) afterparty were jubilant. Even some of the KCL team attended the aftermath, relaxing after a suspenseful game. With every bout of footwork the football stands roared, attentively watching. Chants engaged each team’s hopes all throughout the match. It was a night to remember for all. For all its adversarial nature the fire of rivalry had simmered by 10pm. Once the tension settled players and fans could celebrate having raised £7000 for a charity (United Nations High Commission for Refugees), as well as a fun game.
